# Create your first agent

> Set up an AI receptionist, connect its number, and check the experience with a real call.

## Before you start

Sign in to [your dashboard](https://sidemex.app/dashboard). Gather your business name, services, location, opening hours, and approved answers. Incoming calls require a verified number, an available voice, and a fallback route prepared in the PBX.

## 1. Create a receptionist

In **Agentes**, select **Nueva recepcionista IA**. The guided flow follows **Giro → Tu negocio → Recepcionista → Número → Listo**: industry, business, receptionist, number, and completion.

Choose an industry, review your business information, and approve the profile. If you provide a website, verify the extracted facts and fill in the gaps. Name the agent and check its greeting. Introducing it as a virtual assistant helps customers understand who is answering.

You can also select **Nuevo agente** to choose another type. This guide continues with incoming calls. Spanish control names below match the dashboard.

## 2. Define its task

Open the agent and select **Comportamiento**. Write a specific goal, such as “Answer restaurant questions and handle reservations using actual availability.”

Add approved answers in **Conocimiento**. For restaurants, choose a business and location in **Mi negocio**, publish a reviewed catalog, and save the reservation rules. See [Your business](https://docs.sidemex.app/en/agents/business/) and [Reservations](https://docs.sidemex.app/en/agents/reservations/).

## 3. Select voice and actions

In **Voz e idioma**, choose an available voice engine and language. In **Herramientas y acciones**, decide whether the agent can capture leads, request appointments, or confirm reservations using location availability.

Explain when to ask a person for help. Instructions describe the task; enabled actions determine what the agent can do.

## 4. Prepare incoming calls

In **Telefonía y rutas**, select your verified number or an exclusive Sidemex number. Choose an extension, ring group, or mailbox as fallback, and review the schedule.

If your number is not ready, save your work and continue with [Telephony and routing](https://docs.sidemex.app/en/agents/telephony/).

## 5. Save, publish, and activate

Select **Guardar borrador**, resolve the outstanding requirements, and select **Publicar versión**. In **Versiones y despliegue**, select **Activar esta versión**.

Wait for the dashboard to confirm activation. If it remains pending, read [Troubleshooting](https://docs.sidemex.app/en/agents/troubleshooting/) before repeating changes.

## 6. Make your first test call

Open **Laboratorio de pruebas** and call the receptionist from another phone. Check the greeting, a business question, an interruption, and a request to speak to a person. If you use automatic reservations, test both an available slot and a slot without capacity.

> **Testing uses real business operations**
Incoming tests use the active version, consume minutes, and can save real reservations or transfer real calls.

Open **Llamadas** to review the status and available transcript. Check reservations in their panel and appointment requests in **Resultados y citas**.
